Pretty Pretty Princess...

Lily was getting ready for school the other day, and I asked her to go upstairs to get her hair done. She loves school, so up the stairs she went.

We got upstairs, and Lily was wearing a crown and had changed her mind about getting her hair done.

Lily: "Mom, I don't need you to do my hair. I already did it. I'm wearing the crown to school."

Really?!?! The thing I really love about this is that she honestly saw absolutely no reason why she shouldn't wear the crown to school. Like she needs a crown to add to the already exhisiting "spiritedness" that she brings to school with her every day. I'm sure her teacher would've loved it.

Imaginary Lily

I know a lot kids have an imaginary friend at some point in their lives. When Hunter was younger, he had an imaginary friend named "Geeky", who was a mouse. He would go everwhere with us. Lily, in true fashion, has to put a twist on having an imaginary friend. Lately, instead of having an imaginary friend, she is the imaginary friend. She likes to pretend to be someone else - a child I have never met. She says that she has gotten lost from her family, and asks if she can stay with us because we look "nice". She pretends not to know any of us, and politely inquires about my family. A couple days ago, she took it one step further and was pretending to be the little lost girl playing with my daughter Lily, who was imaginary. I can harldy keep up with her! She is the only kid I've ever met who didn't have an imaginary friend, but was the imaginary friend. Oh, and this is just a bonus pic of Lily on her way out the door, looking like a "rock star"!

Some Mormons...

I don't know about any of you, but I sure am sick of hearing about the FLDS church, and I am even sicker of hearing them be mistakenly referred to as "Mormons". LUAU!!

One of the "blessings" of being the Young Women president is spearheading the fundraiser for camp. This year, we decided to do it with the Young Men and have a luau and silent auction, which took place last Saturday night. It was SO MUCH WORK, so I am breathing a sigh of relief that it's over. Everyone I have talked to says they had a great time, (I was too stressed and crazy to notice), and we were glad for the support we got from the ward. I couldn't resist sharing a few of the pictures from the big night.

We have a wonderful family in our ward, the Fifitas, who helped with the Luau. We couldn't have done it without them. They actually roasted the pig in their backyard! You gotta have a picture of that! Hunter and Lily were fascinated with the pig. I was worried that they would think it was gross, but they still had pork for dinner!

One of the highlights of the night was having the Fifta men share a dance with us. It's called the haka, and it's a Maori dance with lots of stomping and chanting. After they did the haka, they had the men and boys get up on the stage and do the "white man's haka" with them. It was TOO funny. Our camera isn't the greatest, so the pictures of the dance are a little blurry, but but you get the idea. That's Hunter in the white on the right.

All in all, it was a very exciting night. The best part is, it's OVER!

Deep Thoughts...

Sophie and I were having one of our deep, heartfelt conversations last night. I have these conversations with Sophie because: a. she's getting her diaper changed and she can't walk away b. she listens, (or at least pretends to) and c. she has no idea what I'm talking about, so I am really just talking to myself. Anyway, we're having one such converation last night as I am getting her in her jammies:

Mom: (feeling nostalgic) "Soph, you are getting to be such a big girl!"
Sophie: "yeah"
Mom: "I don't think I like it, not one little bit."
Sophie: (nodding her head) "bit"
Mom: "Do you like being a big girl?"
Sophie: "Yeah. Naughty."

You got that right sister! She may not talk much, but her words say volumes.

Catching Up

I have been putting off "blogging" because life has been so busy lately. Every day I think, "I'll find a few minutes tomorrow". Then tomorrow comes, and it's just as busy as yesterday! So today, I have set the transcription and the house cleaning aside for a few minutes, (let's be honest, I never really clean house anyway), to share a few recent tidbits with you.

A couple of days ago, Hunter asked me to make him a list of the fifty states in "ABC order" on his dry erase board. Not that he needed to know, he just wanted to know if I could do it. So after putting it off, I finally got around to it. I made the list after he went to bed and left it out for him to find in the morning. Unfortunately, I apparently used Lily's dry erase marker to do it. I was not aware at the time that this was a capitol offense, but this seems to be the case. Lily was downright ANGRY. So, being the reasonable four year-old that she is, she directed all of her anger at her brother, even though I was the one that used the marker. Anyway, they had a little tiff, and then I left to take Hunter to school. When i got home, I found this:

She had erased the list of fifty states to make way for her revenge. If you look closely, you can see that it is a picture of Hunter (marked with an "H") using her marker with a big old "X" drawn over the top. What a snot! The problem was, when Tyler and I realized what she had done, we had a pretty good laugh.

Last time Dad was out of town, I was once again struggling to get everyone to pay attention to family scrpiture reading. I finally said told Soph that she needed to sit down and pay attention. I asked her "Where are you going to sit for scriptures?" and she said "basket!" She proceeded to hop into the laundry basket, and there she sat until we were done. A miracle! So now, I guess we know the key to peaceful scripture reading.

Once again when Dad was out of town, I was getting ready to take Hunter to school and I thought to myself: "It's a really good thing no one can see us when we drop him off in the morning!" We would scare everyone away. Lily was wearing her "dancing dress" over her yellow shortalls with a parka and flip flops. Soph was still in her jammies, but insisted on having her shoes put on OVER the top of her sleeper. Her morning hair is awesome! You'll notice there's no picture of me, but I will tell you that my outfit included pink fuzzy slippers!

So, nothing too exciting has happened at our house latey, but I guess every day can be exciting in it's own way. Here's hoping your days are exciting too!

A Grand Fort

Lily and her cousin Tori got to play together for a while today and they had a grand time. At one point, I stopped and realized that I hadn't seen them for a while, and they were being very quiet. Not usually a good sign when Lil is involved. I went upstairs and found that they were building a "fort"...under the dining room table...with everything we own. Forget the pillows and blankets, that would be too typical. They were unloading the bookshelf and the end tables and anything else they could find. We had to laugh, and then we had to make them clean it all up! They sure had a good time, but that's what I call doing it the hard way.

Then, I got the camera out to put the pics on my computer, and Sophie told me "picher! picher!" Spoken like a true female. So, I took her picture and put them on the computer, and when I opened them up she said "pretty! pretty!" Well, I happen to think she's right, but hopefully the PC will kick in at some point and she can be a little more modest!
