School's Out for Summer!

Hunter and Lily both wrapped up successful school years at the beginning of June. The year seemed to pass quickly, but I was VERY ready for summer vacation to begin. The second to last week of school brought Lily's first field day, and she was thrilled.

Hunter finished out his year by participating in the third grade talent show on the last full day of school. He talked about participating for several weeks, but I wasn't sure he would actually follow through. Even after plans to prepare a talent with friends fell through and he was left to go it alone, Hunter decided he wanted to participate. I was SHOCKED! (And proud!) Hunter is SO smart, athletic, and competitive, but he is also more introverted than the girls. But he got up there and played the part of Nick Jonas and sang "Australia" by The Jonas Brothers. He was so darling!!

I am so proud of what the kids learned and accomplished last year. Lily is a good student and a great friend. She is very social and knew eveyone in her class and most of the kindies in the other classes too. She was a good example for her classmates. She liked to talk about her days and share with us what she was learning. She is a blooming reader, getting better at it each day. She brought home good report cards and overall had a great first year!

Hunter continues to be our learner. He is so curious and passionate about new subjects. He is a voracios reader, sometimes reading at least one chapter book a day, even when he is in school. He was already reading at a high school level at the beginning of third grade, so who knows where he is now! He also loves math and catches on very quickly. He participated in before school intramurals this year and absolutely loved it. He is also a quiet but loyal friend. He had a friend in his class that was diagnosed with diabetes this school year, and Hunter was assigned to be the one to take him to the nurse every day because he is very dependable. Hunter would come home and tell me if his friend was doing well, or that his blood sugar was high and that he was concerned about him. He knew what this little boy's blood sugar levels should be, and he would try to help him stay healthy. I was really proud that Hunter took such an interest in this friend's health and was very supportive of him. I had the "privelage" of being the room mom for Hunter's class last year, and it was fun to be at their parties and have a good time with the kids in his class. I can hardly believe that he only has two years left in elementary school! I hope they're great!
